I just came across this on 1d4chan and it spoke to the little place in my brain that was entertaining the idea of making a biker command squad. So I'd like to see if this is something I want to pursue.
I use the Iron Hands chapter tactics with Clan Raukaan mixed in for awesome.
The idea apparently is to use an Iron Hands Chapter Master and put him on a bike.
That increases his speed and makes him Toughness 5 and gives him a Twin-linked Boltgun.
Iron Hands Chapter Tactics give him It Will Not Die 5+ and Feel No Pain 6+
Upgrade him to artificer armor for the 2+ save.
Could add the Shield Eternal Relic to give him a 3+ invul, eternal Warrior and Adamantium Will. Then give him a Thunder Hammer for 4+1 S8 AP2 hits
Or we could use the Clan Raukaan Relics and give him the Gorgon's Chain. It doesn't take away a weapon like the Shield Eternal does but it's a risk/reward item that gets worse as he takes wounds.
0 Wounds - 3+ invul like a storm shield, +1 to FNP rolls, making it 5+, and Eternal Warrior
1 Wounds - loses the FNP boost
2 Wounds - loses eternal warrior
3 Wounds - 4+ invul just like his built in Iron Halo
Then you could keep the Thunder Hammer and add a lightning claw, giving you an additional attack with either profile, and adding a faster but weaker attack profile with shred.
Or you could keep the hammer and pick up Betrayer's Bane, a combi-bolter with unlimited melt ammo to add some shooting versatility.
Now, honor guard can't take bikes, but Command Squads can. The only properly molded models are Dark Angels, which is no never mind to me. The Command squad adds an Apothecary, which increases the whole unit's FNP to 5+ and with the Gorgon's Chain ol Smash is raised to 4+
Using the Clan Raukaan Warlord Traits you can get Flesh is Weak, which adds another +1 to FNP rolls, getting the save up to 3+
And if i want to be really iron balsy, add a librarian on a bike and hope for Daemonology - Sanctic 3 Sanctuary, giving the unit +1 to invul saves. raising the 3++ to a 2++
Or try Biomancy - 5 Endurance and give the whole unit Eternal Warrior, FNP 4+ and relentless (redundant). That could potentially get the Smash master up to FNP 2+!
The Smash Master takes more than a few good rolls to pull all this off, but at peak performance here's what we're talking about;
12" move
Toughness 5, Wounds 4, Eternal Warrior
S4 Hammer of Wrath, 4+1+1 S8 Attacks on the charge
It Will Not Die 5+, Feel No Pain 2+, Invul save 2+, Armor Save 2+
All for the cost of 130+20+45+15+20+30=260 then 65+20+25=110 points minimum for the bike Librarian
For 370 points, thats the same price as an Imperial Knight!
