New Pre-orders: Morathi Returns!
The Shadow Queen is here. Today sees pre-orders open for the Daughters of Khaine, and along with the battletome, warscroll cards and dice, there’s a massive model release. Literally, a massive model is being released, and it’s Morathi herself.
Mother of the Daughters of Khaine (so to speak), Morathi is a figure from the world-that-was, an aelven queen who was critical in the Sundering that split her race into asur and druchii, and for millennia, she ruled the Land of Chill alongside her son. (For more on that story, check out Gav Thorpe’s epic Warhammer Chronicles trilogy, The Sundering.)
When the End Times came and the Mortal Realms were formed, she returned as a goddess and member of Sigmar’s Pantheon of Order, and was vital in Tyrion, Teclis and Malerion’s scheme to imprison Slaanesh and restore the aelven souls the God of Excess had consumed. In return, Morathi was given a portion of those souls to reshape into forms she saw fit – and the Daughters of Khaine are the result.
Morathi comes in not just one, but two, Citadel miniatures. Her aelven form stands regally atop some ruined architecture, pointing her brutally barbed spear Heartrender at her foes in challenge. She is draped in robes and decorative armour, and her long hair flows almost to her ankles. Crowned by an ornate helm, and backed with golden barbed wings dripping in gore, she is every inch a queen… and yet somehow her other model is even more compelling.
Morathi is far more than just an aelf, and when roused to anger, she transforms into a monstrous creature reminiscent of the Medusae of the Daughters of Khaine… but larger. Much larger.
This second model maintains many of the details of her aelven form – the crown, robes, armour and spear – but on a very different frame. Morathi’s immense, snake-like form, tail tipped with a sinister barb, is wrapped around a fallen pillar, and her hair is transformed into a writhing nest of serpents. The decorative wings of her aelven form are replaced with great leathery pinions, with powerful spikes making them as dangerous as they are functional.
But what of her rules? Well, they’ll be in the box with the miniatures, of course, but if you want to use her at the head of an army, you’ll want to grab Battletome: Daughters of Khaine. This 88-page battletome contains warscrolls for every unit in the army, alongside a suite of allegiance abilities – including spells, artefacts, rules for the four biggest Khainite cults of the Mortal Realms and more – plus warscroll battalions, matched play points, extensive background for the faction, uniform guides, artwork, photography and everything else you need to plan and create your army.
Want to know more? Check out Warhammer TV’s latest video, which has writers, developers and the designers of the Morathi miniatures talking about the Daughters of Khaine, including the different cults, the themes behind the faction, and the Shadow Queen herself. There are also some sneak peeks at more models from the new range…
Alongside the battletome, you can pick up warscroll cards that give you all the rules you need for your units on handy (and easily portable) cards, plus a bunch of useful tokens, and also a set of Daughters of Khaine dice. These ornate cubes have a black and white marble effect, with Morathi’s serpentine sigil replacing the 6, and skulls where the 1s would be.
