As many of my friends can attest to, I LOVE war games - more specifically table top ones! And I've been a Warhammer fan since 1994. However, it's been mostly Fantasy-based. Well... I've finally taken the plunge and with my friends over at ChronoCade Toys and Games in Richland, Michigan, I've decided to not only learn how to play Warhammer 40K, but also join in on an Escalation! My chosen army: Necrons! This plog is not only a tribute to my army, but more so a way for me to track my progress. I'll be adding in my background and Great House information a bit later.. for now, I need to get started! First step I did was work on a basing theme. I decided I wanted a bit unique yet something that's not unknown. I went with a cracked earth look and a crevice area where (usually) lava would normally go.. but since it's Necrons, I painted a green-glow instead! I used cork for the texture and to create the crevice. To help make it glow a bit, I used Citadel Ardcoat. I added pva and sand as well as Agrax Earthshade and some burnt grass flocking. So, with my prototype test model for basing done... I began working on several at once. And to break up the evening, I decided to work on my army's leader.... Necron Warlord! MORE TO COME! - FADRIL

Warhammer 40k Escalation army update: June 15th 2016 I designed and cut cork and painted ridges for 10 Necron Immortals and 1 Cryptek bases. Its actually a lot of work but I think the end result is very worth it. Calling it a hobby night and relaxing. Looking forward to ChronoCade 40k rules learning on Saturday!

Army update: June 21, 2016 I'll get more painting done this week.. so much more to do before July 9th! But I've delved deep into the background of my army! Here's what I've decided so far: My Necron Dynasty is the NIHILAKH:
Whilst its isolationism is beneficial to alien races, it also carries a peril. Undepleted from wars of military expansion, the Nihilakh viciously act against any interloper. If attacked, they do not rest until the aggressor has been utterly destroyed. Recently however, they have ended their policy of isolation and have begun a campaign of expansion from their borders. The Nihilakh Dynasty itself is based from the Crownworld of Gheden under the command of the Phaeron Krispekh. Glyph of the Nihilakh DynastyThe territories of the Nihilakh Dynasty are parochial in the extreme, venturing little outside their domains. Whilst this isolationism is perhaps a boon to those alien races that dwell near to awakened Nihilakh Tomb Worlds, it also carries significant peril. Undepleted by the grind of military expansion like their counterparts in the more expansionist dynasties, the Necron armies of Nihilakh stand ready to take their vengeance upon any interloper. If attacked, the Nihilakh do not rest until the aggressor has been utterly destroyed. Crown World Gheden:
Gheden, Planet of Shadow, Crownworld of the Nihilakh Dynasty . Due to a devastating fault in a dimensional stabiliser array, the crownworld of Gheden is half-phased into a pocket dimension for all but a few standard hours of its stellar orbit. What was first thought of as a catastrophe has since proved to be a great boon to the Necrons of Gheden, as their world is now almost entirely impervious to assault. Deep beneath Gheden's surface lies the Oracle Chamber, where the bulbous head of an ancient alien prophet gifted with psychic precognition is kept alive through a combination of stasis field technology and temporal stabilisers. The prophet's thoughts are projected as multifaceted holographic images which, in theory, show events yet to unfurl. That said, the creature continually rails against his ghoulish imprisonment and obfuscates the images so that they mislead his captors as often as they are truthful. Here's a map link to my Crown world of Gheden: It's location is lower right on the bottom in a turquoise color.

Update 6-23-2016! I decided to go a slight different painting sheme to better coincide with my now-chosen army backgrounds and Dynasty. I am undercoating everything with Krylon super gold metallic. Then I'll coat the entire model in the new Nuln Oil Gloss. Not as gold as you think. The Nuln Oil will make it near a terracotta look. For those who remember what my Age of Sigmar Stormcast Eternals army looks like... it will be very similar but have a metallic gloss to it instead of dull. Ill am adding scarlet yes, but only on lords and HQ... maybe guard. I may add the tarnished turquoise to these. With these proposed mixes.... Im hopefully going to pull off a pretty unique, yet eye catching Necrons army that will pop with glowing green rods, eyes, and a very unique cracked earth. MORE TO COME!

UPDATE: June 24th, 2016 After undercoating my 750 pt army, I applied a large helping of Agrax Earthshade GLOSS to the models. In comparison to my Stormcast in my previous post, the GLOSS shade didn't darken the models as much as I thought they would.. but they did give it a lighter teracotta look which can still be used to achieve the affect I'm looking for. To better show off how the models are shaping up, I added in the green glow stick and put him on a near finished custom base of mine... the bases add to the gun in my opinion. Hope this gives a better idea for those interested. NOTE: Took these in different lighting. And there will be highlights, glowing green eyes and hoping for a Nihilakh Oxide turqoise addition too.
