Hey gang. I'd like to take the time to talk and discuss a bit about another table top miniatures wargame of interest: MALIFAUX
Malifaux is based in an alternate Earth, Malifaux uses gothic, steampunk, and victorian horror with a dose of the wild west to inject fun and depth into the magical lawlessness of a world rife with monsters, necropunks, man-machine hybrids, gunslingers, and powerhungry politicos. Actively using character-driven stories to define the world of Malifaux, seek your fortune in this fast paced and brutal 32mm tabletop miniature skirmish game. Assemble your crew and stake your claim!
This is a skirmish game that uses an assortment of terrain and buildings as the fight scene. Malifaux is a bit different in that players use decks of cards called Fate Decks to resolve game events such as attacking and spell-casting. Players can manipulate the cards they play to alter the Duel's outcome. It takes a shrewd leader to effectively utilize a Crew's resources, ensuring he or she always has ready the cards needed to Cheat Fate. Movement is by using a tape measure/ruler. Typical crews are usually less than 12 models.
In Malifaux Fate's hand is represented by a pack of cards we call the Fate Deck. Each of the Fate Deck's suits represents one of the threads of aetheric power magicians use to power their abilities. When a model attempts to perform an action you will often flip a card for it to determine whether that action is successful.
Every turn each player draws a hand of cards. You may cheat fate with your cards, replacing the flipped card with one from your hand. In this way you can influence a model's actions you deem to be important.
Each player will need a Fate Deck.
The gameplay has crews that can contain several different types of models depending on how a player constructs it. Masters can manipulate the course of events in the world around them, changing their own Fates through their control or theft of Soulstones. A variety of fantastic and frightening beings, collectively known as Minions, serve the Master as fodder in his or her machinations. In addition, Henchmen can lead specialized Crews in their Master's absence, or serve their Master directly as a member of a Crew. Masters and Henchmen are also supported by Totems, extensions of their magical abilities which increase their spellcasting range and provide additional aid in an Encounter. Lastly, each Master can transform itself into a powerful Avatar, representing a specific aspect of their personality.
There are currently 7 factions in Malifaux: The Guild, Ressurrectionists, Arcanists, Neverborn, Outcasts, Gremlins, and Ten Thunders. Each faction has about 3 different 'Crew' leaders of which you choose which one to lead your faction. The rest of the crew followers of their respective faction can then be taken/added to your overall Malifaux Crew. So, for the Guild the Crew leaders are Lady Justice, Sonnia, and Perdita. Each of have own followers. Your Guld crew leader can be one of those 3 and you can add any of the 3 leaders followers to your list.
I have recently bought into this game as a buddy is soley into it - Rocky Bijon Garrison. I have 2 crews from the Guild (Sonnia and Perdita), 1 Arcanists crew, and 2 crews from the Neverborn (Lillith and Pandora).
Does this sound like a game anyone else here may be interested in playing besides myself? I have yet to play or learn how to play but am wanting to get with Rocky for an introduction. Would anyone else want to join in? No dates have been set or mentioned yet.. but I thought it would be great to have him introduce to a group instead of 1 on 1 etc.
