- YT-1300: Chewbacca PS5, Millennium Falcon, Intelligence Agent * Tie Fighter: Academy Pilot PS1
Squad Tactics:
Rosa: I created my squad around a centered YT-1300 using it's 360 degree turret and Chewbacca's ability to ignore all critical hits which helped out a couple times in key situations in late game. I then went with two A-Wings for fast attack and support hopefully giving me decent positioning. Fadril likes to run many ships when playing Empire and their ships are pretty maneuverable so I'm hoping that I can compete with those using my A-Wings while my YT-1300 can 360 degree shoot. I also gave it the Falcon upgrade title card allowing it to have the Evade action just in case I get in trouble.
Fadril: I decided to go with something much different than what I normally fly with.. the Decimator! I usually overlook this ship as it seems really powerful not to mention pretty bad maneuver dial. It also has ZERO agility meaning that any hits landing on it will stick unless I get a range 3 bonus or Asteroid cover bonus.. which actually happened 3 different times! I gave it Engine Upgrade for more manueverability to help get around Asteroids and set-up for it's Proton Torpedo's which must use it's front arc line of sight. The Pilot's ability also gives a one point damage to any enemy ship my base touches at the end of it's movement! This helped take out two shields off one of the A-Wings.. a big help! I also decided on Gunner which ended up being a HUGE boon to helping land those hits against the Empire's shields and decent agility on those A-Wings. I then went with Turr Phennir's Tie Interceptor for a very manueverable high-attack hammer. I hate how fragile they are but that's the game balance, so I helped it a bit with a Shield Upgrade. I then closed my list with a Pilot Skill 1 Tie Fighter for fodder, nuisance, and overall assistance.
Deployment:
Round #1:
No shots fired either side. Empire Interceptor and Tie Fighter flew straight ahead together, hoping to concentrate fire on the YT-1300. The Decimator played a reaction opening move going a distance of 2 straight to see where those A-Wings were going.
The YT-1300 flew forward wanting to get shots off at those Ties. The A-Wings moved up to get into position to start working on the Decimator.
Round #2:
Tie Fighter moves forward and then takes a Boost Action to get it's forward arc into decent firing position on the YT-1300. Turr Phennir's Interceptor just moves 3 bank to aim directly at the YT-1300. The Decimator moves a far straight maneuver to try and ram into the A-Wing.. and a SUCCESS forcing the A-Wing to take damage but at a sacrifice of getting no actions for the Decimator.
The YT-1300 didn't plan on the Tie's landing where they did and set up a perfect line of sight for them by moving forward. The A-Wing that was rammed by the Decimator also wasn't expecting that and it's maneuver wasn't long enough to get around the large ship's base.. thus staying there for another round. The other A-Wing flew right past the Decimator expecting it to have been someplace else and will not have line of sight for shooting this turn.
The YT-1300 took heavy damage from both Ties and lost 4 shields! Turr Phennir lost a shield and took one damage.
Here, Rosa moves her A-Wing!
Round #3
The Decimator's move finished still touching that A-Wing's base thus forcing it to take another damage and depleting all it's shields. Turr Phennir's Interceptor almost got into trouble with the table edge but barely scrapped by from leaving the game and managed to get a hard turn in leaving it without line of sight for combat. The Tie Fighter guess incorrectly where the YT-1300 would be going and the Tie's hard turn 1 would eventually end up colliding with Chewbacca! No shots fired from either tie.
With both ties out of of firing arcs, the YT-1300 was in a good position to use it's turret on the Interceptor.. delivering another damage leaving Turr Phennir with only 1 hull point left! Darn those turrets! Rosa was then able to get a K-Turn (180 degrees) with one A-Wing and get the other one in position so both would shoot this turn. The Empire took a lot of damage this turn.
Round #4
This round would see the Decimator begin to show just how poorly it's manuever dial is and got into terrible positioning.. even for a turret. Tie Interceptor boosted into range to hopefully deal one more heavy damage turn on the YT-1300. To compliment firepower, the Tie Fighter did a K-Turn with the Falcon directly in it's line of fire.
The YT-1300 was having enough of the two ties and wanted to help out the A-Wings with the Decimator. The A-Wings flew into position for a close-range attack on the Decimator and to help cover the YT-1300 flanks.
Turr Phennir did it's job and not only took out the Falcon's remaining shields but also gave it it's first hull damage. The Tie fighter added it's own to the attack and gave the YT-1300 another damage. But it was Turr's last stand as Chewbacca rotated the turret and blasted the Interceptor from the game... FIRST KILL GOES TO REBELS!
Round #5-#7
The next couple rounds went into lots of positioning and the big ships taking a bit more damage with only 1 more ship destruction: the A-Wing which was rammed twice earlier by the Decimator. By the end of round 7, there was 1 Hull left on the other A-Wing, 5 Hull left on the Falcon, 7 Hull left on the Decimator and 2 Hull left on the Tie Fighter.
Round #8
Here we saw the destruction of the two smaller ships - both the A-Wing and the Tie Fighter fought very well in this game. But now it's time for the big-boys to go head-to-head!
FINAL ROUND
After both ships did some fancy maneuvering and drained each other's hull down to 1 (Falcon) and 5 (Decimator) respectively... it came down to the Decimator FINALLY getting into line of fire for it's Concussion Torpedoes!! It was too much for the lowly Falcon and Chewbacca's 1 agility plus extra die for long distance to evade.
GAME MATCH: EMPIRE WINS!
This was such a fun game! My daughter, Rosa, played well and I'm so proud to see her War Gaming tactics expand and play out. Until next time!
