Warhammer Fantasy: END TIMES OVERALL ENDING AND 9th EDITION
So... with the latest information and leaks, we have officially seen the End of the current Warhammer Fantasy setting.
Or have we?
It is a foregone conclusion that GW will be resetting all-things Warhammer Fantasy. The End TImes was their catastrophic end to that setting. This is also a huge tie-in with Games Workshop trying to protect their Intellectual Product (IP) of Warhammer and their likeness and names, AND trying to boost poor declining sales over a 12 year period.
It is also aparent that the poor sales isn't because of the game.. it's still quite popular. It's just the initial getting started costs have risen a lot to where new hobbyists were getting fewer and fewer.
There is still a lot of uncertainty and speculation on what GW will do next with Fantasy. HOWEVER... we do have a VERY BIG INSIGHT on what that could be!
For years, GW has always inserted subtle hints about the future of things to come in their background stories and magazines and in army books, codex's etc. This is a proven mainstay and pretty sure they haven't stopped doing this.
So, what exactly is it that is in front of us but we might not be able to see it?
Well... End Times has spelled it out for us. Just in little bits and pieces. BUT maybe Hasting's from WarSeer has put it together for us.
The last few sentences of the final End TImes book said: "So did the Great Game start anew in other worlds"
From Hastings:
""I find this to be the most interesting part of that text...."so did the Great Game start anew in other worlds"
Could this imply that where they are going will be another warhammer world? if so perhaps the lizardmen have already arrived there after their exodus? and as time has no constant to chaos they could have been settled on this world already for millions of years, making them the old ones of the original warhammer world, ready to start anew the great plan to fend of chaos when it arrives? So it "could" be a complete reset of the warhammer world rather than an evolution?
Maybe the Skaven will arrive there too if like the Verminlord seems to suggest they need to mave Skavenblight? perhaps that's how the original tower/bell thing was completed overnight originally and the Skaven came into being? maybe it was some kind of beacon for the arrival of skavenblight?""
So.. what I'm getting from all of this is that because this is all on a repeating scheme, and these events will always continue and the players will always be the same just in different names (as it's happened before and will supposedly happen again), that the next Warhammer world will have the same armies and same types of heroes etc BUT will look different because it IS a different world. The events that take shape and the races will be there.. but technology will differ, styles will differ, as will alliances etc. All the "side dishes" can change as long as the main course is still there... just with different names and styles attached.
That's my theory! And if Hasting's theory is correct, then I'm actually OK with moving on.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
