A building, labeled as heavy support, 230 points
Medium building, 4 HP, TC 20, AV14
Access points?
Fire points, 4 in cardinal facing, 2 shooters each
can take the stronghold assault upgrades, including Void Shields and obstacles.
Plasma Obliterator R72" S7 AP2 Primary Weapon 1, Massive Blast, Gets Hot
Plasma Overheat:
if it gets glanced from its Gets Hot effect, the unit inside takes d3 wounds along with other effects.
Stick a tech marine with a full team of servitors in here and it should be just fine.
GW has a bundle with the Aquila Strongpoint. apparently this pill box seats in the circle turret base of the aquila's primary weapon section.
How does that work? i don't know yet, but i'd think it'd be another Aquila Strongpoint variant, same 500 pt price tag, just adding a third part to the building and a different primary weapon.
Which honestly seems like the best way to field it. Otherwise, sitting out in the field like a high priced Bastion just seems like its daring you to run up and punch it to death.
Compared to…
A Firestorm Redoubt - the FsR gets you more shooters, actual battlements and your choice of 2 heavy turrets, though those turrets are always forcibly automated. along with a choice of third regular auto turret.
Fortress of Redemption - A multipart building with a variety of weapons and special rules
Aquila Strongpoint Macro cannon - bigger, badder, tougher, pricier.
As fortifications go, you're spending the cost of a land raider to drop a pie plate of AP2 on the table once per turn.
Early on, sounds great! until you get your units tangled up, then you target options shrink.
or you can hold back your forces, and incite your enemy to rush you that much harder, still, narrowing your target list.
Point is, big fortifications like these have a hard time making their points back. I wouldn't expect to get more than 3 good clean shots off with one of these before the good target's dry up or the building is compromised.
I hope there will be some kind of special rules for attaching the obliterator to an Aquila Strongpoint. If not, i can see no reason to give up a choice of perfectly good D weapons for a cannon that, if given enough time, will blow itself up.
