From Spikey Bits:
According to this latest rumor it looks like FFG is diving even deeper into the miniatures market, creating a new tabletop war game for Star Wars.
The new rumor stating that Fantasy Flight Games is working on a large-scale Star Wars ground combat minis wargame came out of the community forums on FFG. Let’s take a look at what was posted.
FFG (Fantasy Flight Games) is a board and rpg games company who has had licences for Games Workshop in the past but still has licenses for Star Wars and has just launched their own table top war game in Runewars. Their top games include Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Armada, Star Wars Imperial Assault, Star Wars Role Playing, A Game of Thrones: LCG, and Android Netrunner CCG.
Star Wars: Legion
Epic warfare is an inescapable part of the Star Wars™ universe, and you can lead your troops to victory with Star Wars: Legion™, a two-player miniatures game of thrilling infantry battles in the Star Wars universe! As a miniatures game, Star Wars: Legion invites you to enter the ground battles of the Galactic Civil War as the commander of a unique army filled with troopers, powerful vehicles, and iconic characters. While innovative mechanics for command and control simulate the fog of war and the chaos of battle, the game’s unpainted, easily assembled figures give you a canvas to create any Star Wars army you can imagine.
Edit: the source is an email from Alliance, the Asmodee/FFG distributor in the US. I’ve seen it and can verify personally.
FFG SWL01 Star Wars: Legion – Core Set $89.95 is the only new info. The quote is the full description.
Star Wars: Legion looks like it’s going to provide some stiff competition for Warhammer 40,000 if the rumors are true. Build, paint, and play a Star Wars army, where do we sign up? FFG has already knocked Games Workshop out of the top spot with their hit game Star Wars: X-Wing, is this going to push GW further down the Top 5 Miniature Lines?
We’ve seen the popularity of Warhammer 40,000 spike a lot since the release of 8th, but what’s going to happen if the rumors are true about Star Wars: Legion? Fantasy Flight Games usually has a very easy to learn rules system, could they be in the process of making a much more user friendly tabletop wargame? Either how it’s something we’ll definitely be keeping our eye on.
